A substantial tome of work, 686 pages’ worth, is just about to be published by Routledge and if you can afford a copy, it’s definitely worth getting your hands on one. The title is The Angkorian World and it has no less than 36 chapters by leading scholars who combine evidence from archaeology, texts, and the natural sciences to introduce the Angkorian state, describe its structure, and explain its persistence over more than six centuries. The editors are Mitch Hendrickson, Miriam Stark and Damian Evans who’ve gathered together a veritable cornucopia of fascinating insights into how the great Angkor Empire arose and functioned. The list of contributors includes a who’s who of Angkor scholars - Ang Choulean, David Brotherson, Alison Carter, Chea Socheat, JB Chevance, Tess Davis, Ea Darith, Roland Fletcher, Heng Piphal, Sarah Klassen, Christophe Pottier, Peter Sharrock, Ashley Thompson, amongst many others. A real labour of love, it took six and a half years to come to fruition.
